Another weekend in Eumseong is gone and another Monday is over...

Hello again from Eumseong!!

This has been a little bit of a long week, routine has set in, as has the need to go and do things. Of course, breaking up routine is difficult when you don't have a driver's license. It is a struggle. I feel 15 all over again.

So this Sunday, still living off of our picnic fun, Joy and I talked to our "Oppa" (Big Brother) about going to Eumseong again. Oppa Henry agreed. :)

This tour was slightly different then the squeaky clean historic tour that Justin & Kevin gave the group last Saturday.
This creek had kids swimming in it. I was intrigued by the bridge UNDER the water. What's the point of a walkway UNDER the water??

Very chilly. Henry wanted me to walk across, of course he and Joy did not join me.

Us in a mirror. They have these giant mirrors everywhere to help drivers see around corners. Obviously, they make for good photo op's too!

JAZZ HANDS.
Eumseong's Theater and Arts Center. It was HUGE.
For your perspective. :)

Joy wanted to buy a Korean straw hat.
All throughout Eumseong, Henry lied to us. He told us big fibs about what things were used for and why they were being sold in this place or that. When he pointed out a still and said that you
could put whole dogs in there and it would make a delicious "dog juice," we caught on. I am not sure how many lies I swallowed that day!
This is Henry and the Lady-Who-Used-to-Live-in-Tyrranus. At school, we have a building called Tyrranus. It is named after a place where the Apostle Paul taught. This lady used to live in the home that GVCS bought and tore down to build Tyrranus. When Henry graduated from GVCS high school in 2006, she was still living there. :) Old friends. She hugged and talked rapidly to Joy and I; we mostly smiled.

On the way home, Henry took us the "back way" to GVCS. We rode through many beautiful farms and landscapes. This is a pretty typical view around Eumseong. Isn't it lovely?
A lovely tree-lined road.

We loved our afternoon out! Thank you Oppa!! :)
The rest of Sunday was spent swapping English-Korean words with Justin, Sarah, & Henry. I can now say "what are you doing?" (Mo hay-yo) and "hey you guys!" (yeah dtulah, ahn-nyeong).... obviously, very useful phrases. The students DIED laughing when I tried the new vocab out.
On the flip side, Justin can now say "Hey! I was looking for you! Where were you? Are you free later? What are your plans?" as well as all of the "To Be" verb (is, are, am, was, were...).
Yes, yes... we all know I am NOT the star pupil.

Yesterday and today were spent in class, trying to sort out new readings and assignments for the kids. Everyone is looking a little worse for wear, but they have improved so much! I am so proud of them.

We are still trying to compile lists of "things we should probably tell you before you go to the states...;" as of this week, the list is getting much longer. It is interesting to discuss cultural differences and to try to understand how two cultures can co-exist side-by-side without either offending the other.
Luckily, GVCS is blessed with a very co-operative staff who truly want their students to excel in the states. We are all working on these things together.

Of course, there are the little revelations that make your day: the chef GVCS brought in for the "American Lounge" (who makes our breakfasts, of cereal and toast, and dinners (suspiciously a lot of hot dogs, pizza, hamburgers, and homemade fries) is NOT a cook. He does not cook. He freaks out before EVERY meal because he is NOT a cook. Poor guy. I take back all those mean things I thought this mornings about "I wonder if he'll arrange the Lotteria take-out on the fancy plates tonight...?" He obviously had us completely fooled. :) Christina says he is trying so hard and literally  has NO idea what he's doing(We were a little confused about the tin foil in the microwave, the cardboard still under the pizza when it came out of the oven, and the corndogs for breakfast). All in good fun when you're adventuring abroad, I guess.

Unfortunately, for you, my lovely readers, I missed the water balloon fight, so there are no funny stories or epic pictures. I was in my office... hiding. Charles, Joy, and the Californians said it was a lot of fun and the kids really enjoyed themselves. I stayed cowering away. Angry students armed with water balloons and given free range?! No, thank you.

I am not sure what all will come up this week. Luckily, I am fully supported by your prayers. I couldn't do this without a little heavenly help. :)
Hope your summers are going well!!

P.S. Thanks, Joy, for letting me steal your computer to post. :)
